Role : Health, Safety & Environment Specialist

Job Purpose
The purpose of this job is to continuously improve the HSE aspects at Pune site and thereby to deliver the lead safe and Hazardous Waste Management as per MPCB norms. The job holder is responsible for the execution and improvement of site HSE & asset conservation standards, thereby ensuring site is conforming to the legislative and corporate standards. Also, provide expertise in operating, support and transactional services. The Health, Safety and Environment specialist will lead and influence Pune plant business unit including, operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors and visitors to promote an environmentally sound facility.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Lead development of long-term site HSE strategies to meet global commitments.
Provide technical expertise in the management of HSE related topics and incidents management system.
Monitor local and state regulatory agendas for changes that impact site operations and develop, implement and lead strategies and programs to ensure compliance with new legislation.
Lead, influence, engage, and develop site associates to support Safety and Environment strategies through coaching, training, and motivating shop-floor workforce.
Part of the various HSE related committees. Expected to participate in and abide by the team directives.
Lead effort to develop and track and continuously improve Key HSE Performance Indicators (KPI’s) that address HSE performance.
Implement new HSE initiatives to develop, modify and implement the necessary controls, permitting and environmental programs to minimize regulatory impact to the business.
Influence and direct site factory management team regarding safety and environment risks (regulatory and corporate policy exposure) and make recommendations to minimize impact to the site (i.e., regularly participate/perform staff briefings).
Conduct safety and environmental training initiatives to enhance overall associate engagement.
Develop, track and manage the HSE budget for labor, waste and expenses for Pune site.
Drive CARES/BBS program to continuously improve the safety culture.
Monitor CAPA compliance to achieve 100% compliance to internal and external audit.
Key Responsibilities
Update emergency procedures and conduct periodic emergency drills to ensure continued preparedness and appropriate responsiveness of the emergency teams.
Ensure site compliance with local safety regulation as well as asset conservation standards.
Champion the periodic safety inspection program, ensures tracking of all non-conformities and implementation of corrective actions.
Responsible for the deployment of the Mars Safety management system as well as maintain the system effectively.
Make the site complaint to the ISO 45001 and 14001 standards and ensure compliance in the Arcadis Audit covering Environment and safety management systems.
Promote safety awareness through periodic safety campaigns, awareness, and training programs to improve site HSE performance as well as to embed & sustain safety best in class behavior in the site.
Initiate, lead, encourage and document the risk assessment programs (Safety & ergonomics) and ensures risk level of the factory is reduced to an acceptable level to avoid any incident to people, environment, and property.
Ensuring that all Safety incidents are suitably investigated, root causes clearly identified & implement corrective actions.
Update safety guidelines/ manuals for contractors working on site and co-ordinate with all Job owners to ensure that these guidelines are deployed effectively.
Engage the site team by creating Safety awareness programs via National Safety, Road Safety, Fire Safety week celebration etc.
Update Material Safety Data Register system and ensure that all chemicals on site are handled as per the MSDS requirement.
Champion the near miss system, ensures that high risk actions are closed attains the site closure target for near misses through efficient coordination with all the teams.
Champion the associates & contractors validation program by training, tracking and highlighting the non-conformance.
Coordinate the induction program for new joiners (associates and contractors).
Champion the operation fitness certificate renewal system & ensure maintenance of site permits.
Manage the safety & first aid consumables efficiently.
Provide SES and asset conservation technical assistance to Engineers as appropriate.
Follow up with concerned stakeholders for getting the inputs and prepare the required HSE related reports.
Carry out the risk assessment for the offsite team activities & ensures that all the risks are minimized through the Mars program.
Coordinate the HSE PILLAR implementation at site.
Essential element owner for incident management
Be a part of FMOS pillar as an essential element member.
Ensure the Critical standard gap assessment and closure of the gaps.
Coordinate all HSE related trainings and meetings with stakeholders.
Organize and coordinate Health Test Camps and HSE campaigns with stakeholders.
Qualification :
Minimum a B.Tech in Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical/Fire Technology with 4-8 years of working experience in an FMCG/Pharmaceuticals/Chemical/Adhesive manufacturing environment with HSE management experience.
Must have completed 1 year regular Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety from RLI/CLI/Any state govt. board of education and should have NEBOSH or IOSH certification.
Knowledge in local language will be an added advantage.
