GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:

Aon Impact Forecasting (IF) is looking for an experienced flood model developer to help and lead the development of the complex catastrophe models and enhance existing ones as part of catastrophe modeling analysis in the insurance and reinsurance industry. This is a full-time position located in India (preferably in Bangalore, with possible hybrid option) focusing on development of probabilistic flood models.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

• The individual will be a part of a team and will contribute towards developing and utilizing probabilistic flood models, to estimate probabilistic and scenario hazard, model event set, vulnerability component and implement flood models into loss calculation platform (ELEMENTS)
• The individual will also contribute towards model simulation, in model testing, calibration and validation and/or assistance or other analytical teams with estimating location and portfolio level losses on various perspective.
• The individual will actively collaborate with R&D team and software development teams in all aspects of the model development and implementing the methodologies developed by the R&D group at IF.
• Play an active role in model go-to market strategy, having discussion and addressing comments of Aon analytics and/or clients or prospects.
• Assist in other model development tasks as needed such as documentation, model calibration, client presentations, and model design.

• At least 2 years’ direct experience in Flood Modeling
• Advanced knowledge of hydraulics and hydrological models and key principles of hydrology and open channel / coastal hydraulics.
• Above average knowledge of GIS (ArcGIS and/or QGIS) tool is a major benefit, particularly when linked with any scripting or batch-processing.
• In-depth statistical knowledge, preferably in probabilistic, geospatial statistics and similar.
• Good understanding of hydrologic models and/or flood routing models.
• Some Knowledge of insurance/reinsurance concepts is an advantage.
• Excellent skills in oral and written communication
• Capability to work in a team effectively and respect teamwork environment

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED :

• Good programming skills, particularly Python, R, MATLAB or Fortran.
• Ability to analyze and interpret data; Confident and self-driven individual; has Can-Do attitude; Ability to work in teams and do multi-tasking; ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
