Overview
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer plays a crucial role in our organization, leading the design and development of complex mechanical systems. They are responsible for driving innovation, ensuring quality, and meeting project timelines.
Key Responsibilities - Lead the mechanical design of new products, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define design requirements and resolve technical issues
- Conduct thorough analysis and testing of designs to validate performance and reliability
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and resources effectively
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development
- Optimize designs for manufacturability, cost, and assembly
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Interface with suppliers and external partners to drive component development and selection
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of design documentation and specifications
- Identify and implement innovative technologies and methodologies to enhance the design process
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues during product development and production
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory requirements
- Support the evaluation and integration of new materials and processes
- Participate in strategic planning and goal setting for the engineering team
- Lead cost reduction and value engineering efforts across product lines
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred
- Proven experience in mechanical design and product development within a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar tools
- Demonstrated expertise in project management, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex engineering problems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and disciplines
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in mechanical design and manufacturing
- Experience with FEA and other analysis tools for structural, thermal, and fluid systems
- Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage competing priorities
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality and innovative mechanical designs on schedule
- Understanding of regulatory requirements and standards for product safety and performance
- Experience with prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical systems
- Strong leadership capabilities with a focus on mentorship and talent development
- Knowledge of materials science, including metals, plastics, and composite materials
