Position Overview:
The Mechanical Designer II is responsible for designing and developing CAD models for various JBPCO applications, including walk-in van body development. The Mechanical Designer works with the Mechanical and Electrical Engineers and Product Design to perform job functions. This position will focus heavily on design for wire routing, electronics mounting, sharing CAD across all business units, interfacing with SolidWorks PDM, and design for manufacturability.
This is a role for a Mechanical Designer I with 4 to 8 years of CAD experience - commercial vehicle and electrical applications are of particular interest. This role will report to the Lead Mechanical Engineer.
Responsibilities:
· Develop 3D models of mechanical and electrical components, including, but not limited to, fabricated metal, fabricated plastics, busbars, and wire harnesses
· Develop 2D schematics for wire harness designs
· Detail and dimension 2D drawings for prototype design of mechanical and electrical components and assemblies including GD&T
· Perform tolerance stack ups
· Provide internal CAD support
· Manage engineering Bill of Materials (BOM) and Change Control
· Work with Mechanical Engineers, Manufacturing, and Purchasing to assist in building prototypes and debugging; assist creation of build books for prototype designs
· Support Mechanical Engineer in testing and cause analysis in the resolution of any test or in-the-field failures
· Support Mechanical Engineer in implementing product cost reductions
· Develop product documentation including, schematics, BOM, control drawings within the procedures and requirements of a formal product development process
· Support system and subsystem level simulation and testing
· Assist with DFMEA, DVP, and other gate deliverables throughout the gate review process
Qualifications
· Mechanical Engineer with 4 - 8 years or Associate Engineer with 5 to 9 years of CAD experience or relevant experience.
· Experience in SolidWorks CAD software or equivalent.
· Experience in wire routing, wire harness, sheet metal, casting, injection moulding and/or other part manufacturing processes.
· GD&T knowledge.
· ASME and ASTM drafting or relevant standards.
· Demonstrated experience with requirements and task management activities.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated experience making presentations and technical reports, proficient in MS Office.
· Demonstrated initiative and strong listening skills.
· Must be adaptable and proactive in fast-paced environment.
Desired Qualifications
· Associate or higher degree in Drafting, 3D Modelling, Mechanical Engineer or other relevant technical degree
· Certification in SolidWorks
· SolidWorks Wire Routing
· Work utilizing SolidWorks PDM Enterprise
· Certifications in GD&T
