Position: Head of Policy and Public Affairs
Location: Remote (we are more interested in your passion than your postcode)
Salary: £52,500 per annum.
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours a week (flexible working considered)

Leading our public affairs, policy, and research work, you will develop the powerful evidence, trusted relationships and creative lobbying tactics that will enable the organisation to make a lasting difference. Key responsibilities of the Head of Policy and Public Affairs include:
- Lead the development and delivery of public affairs strategies to build trusted relationships between the organisation and key parliamentarians, political influencers and public bodies including think tanks, commissioners and NHS.
- Be responsible for the organisation’s relationships in Whitehall; overseeing influencing strategies to pursue changes in Government policy and working with the Policy and Research Manager.
- Maintain an ongoing strategic overview of political trends, using political intelligence to inform policy and campaign priorities, and to advise the CEO and senior leadership team.
- Lead stakeholder analysis and mapping to effectively target public affairs activity and to ensure relationship management is consistent and that knowledge is shared.
- Be the face of the organisation’s policy work across the sector, raising the profile of our work and developing partnerships in policy networks across health, disability, and other relevant areas.
- Raise awareness of the organisation and the issues that deaf people experience in Parliament, directly supporting Parliamentarians to represent these matters in debates, questions and through other parliamentary mechanisms.
- Review the effectiveness of policy and public affairs strategy and activity, introducing new tactics and approaches as appropriate.
- Provide line management support for the Policy and Research Manager.
About you:
You will be curious about how our community experiences healthcare and use that insight to drive health policy changes and solutions that end the health inequalities deaf people face. You will also be enthusiastic and resilient when navigating a challenging and complex health system to drive change for good.
They are looking for people with:
- Substantial and relevant public affairs, policy or advocacy experience.
- Experience working on health and social care issues and with the voluntary sector – with strong subject expertise in areas of health or care policy.
- Proven ability to devise and deliver influencing strategies to secure policy or legislative change.
- Able to demonstrate a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and partners.
- Strong writing skills, and ability to convey complex information in a concise and accessible format.
- Ability to work under pressure to agreed deadlines and adapt to change.
- Strong communication skills, and ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including those at a senior level.
- Knowledge of policy-making and legislative processes in Whitehall and Westminster.
- Knowledge of health or disability policy.
