Legal Reporting Fellowship

Job description
We are looking to welcome a legal reporting fellow to our newsroom. Preference will be given to candidates from socially marginalised communities.
Primary responsibilities include: - Identify and report on cases which have the potential to significantly impact the development of law or otherwise impact the general public in a timely manner.
- Build and be in regular contact with an extensive network of lawyers and clerks working at the SC.
- Attend hearings for significant cases at the SC for breaking news reporting and producing hearing reports.
- Reporting on cases will include producing case background pages, petition summaries, judgement explainers and Judge profiles, and writing deeply researched features and analytical pieces.
- Assist with building SCO s repository of documents.
Requirements Our ideal candidate is an individual who is passionate about Indian judiciary and its impact on India s constitutional democracy and must be committed to communicating this to the public at large. They should possess a deep understanding of the working of our justice system and have good reporting and writing skills with a commitment to consistently learn and improve.
Candidates must have an
- Undergraduate degree in Law or Journalism
- 0-2 years of experience in legal journalism
- Ability to write quick and accurate copy in good English, with excellent research and interviewing skills and a nose for news.
