Job description

As a Senior Engineer – Civil Structures, you will be part of the HKiCRC team in WSP India and operate out of our Bengaluru office. The ideal candidate for this role would be from a Structural Engineering background with hands-on professional experience in design and analysis of structural works associated with Civil Infrastructure projects. You will be supporting multi-disciplinary, geographically spread teams working on projects principally in Hong Kong and across the APAC region. You will be tasked with analysis, calculations & design of civil structures and review of design documentation including BIM models, drawings, and specifications etc., as well as writing technical reports. Responsibilities Work in close coordination and collaborate with colleagues and lead engineers in the lead region and within WSP iCRC in India to develop engineering solutions for end clients that meet the project scope and associated constraints like budgets and schedules. Independently undertake investigations, analysis and consulting services on assigned projects and be accountable for end-to-end project delivery including designs, calculations, reports and drawings/documentation to a high standard. Assist the lead engineer in projects primarily pertaining to civil structures, including reinforced concrete / steel bridges & associated structures, foundation sub-structures, underpasses, carriageways, tunnels, noise barriers and temporary works (including excavation & lateral support, temporary steel platforms) etc. Produce and review research, analysis and coordination of designs, calculations, contract documentation, specifications, schedules, construction estimates and drawings suitable for construction. Focus on and proactively help in the development, promotion and adoption of digital engineering tools, processes and workflows for enhanced level of care and delivery efficiency. Undertake appropriate verification and validation of deliverable, self-check own work and peer review junior team members’ work as necessary. Take ownership of assigned tasks and deliver under minimal supervision; Proactively manage workloads and assist in delegating work suitably to team members, manage project pipelines and resourcing needs. Lead a project team where necessary and supervise the work of junior team members; Add value to wider WSP India teams across organisation boundaries through coaching, mentoring, guidance and technical advice to contribute to an engaged and enthusiastic team culture. Ensure safety in design and maintain data and information security. Keep up to date with developments in the relevant professional area. Key Competencies Mandatory Skills Strong technical expertise in structural engineering associated with civil infrastructure projects and demonstrable understanding of the underlying principles in the analysis and design of reinforced concrete / steel bridges & associated structures, foundation sub-structures, underpasses, carriageways, tunnels, noise barriers and temporary works (including excavation & lateral support, temporary steel platforms) etc. Proficiency in relevant design codes, standards, legislation and practices in civil/structural engineering. Familiarity with engineering principles and best practices in concrete and steel structural design; Prior knowledge of Hong Kong / British / European standards and best practices is preferred. General technical expertise in structural engineering associated with civil infrastructure projects and demonstrable understanding of the underlying principles. Hands-on proficiency in structural engineering design software like SAP2000, SAFE, Midas, etc. and ability to undertake detailed reviews on related designs, outputs as well as comprehensive design reports. Appreciation of technical risks; Ability to manage and communicate the same with the project team and/or client; Understanding and appreciation of project management essentials. Excellent report-writing, presentation, and quantitative & analytical skills; demonstrable ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to interact meaningfully with peers & clients with teams in lead region. Expertise in CAD/BIM software preferred; ability to review the work and suggest improvements. Desired Skills Experience across a range of projects in the transport & civil infrastructure domain; Experience in Hong Kong projects will be an advantage. Appetite to build knowledge in relevant Hong Kong design codes, standards, legislation and practices. Aspiration to build & guide a team of junior engineers in performing day to day tasks and provide required guidance, mentoring and training at various levels. Ability to apply best health & safety practices & behaviour to offer sound engineering design & construction solutions; ability to leverage appropriate problem-solving techniques and analysis.
