Job description
Along with a generous hybrid remote working model, this role is located at our India Bangalore office and based within our Cloud Operations team at Mimecast.
We are looking for someone to join our existing worldwide team to be responsible for hardware maintenance of our cloud-based server hardware. In addition to this, the ideal candidate will have a technical background with experience in the Data Centre world.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated and a strong team player. Successful candidates should thrive in fast paced and agile environments that are regularly evolving.
What You ll Do:
- Help to develop global standards, process improvements, and promote best practices
- Create full sets of documentation around projects and work. Define workflow and communication systems for Hardware troubleshoot activities.
- Troubleshooting/Fixing Hardware issues on various Enterprise (Blades / Storage / white label) Servers
- Provide cross-functional communication with other Technical Operations groups
- Participating in Conference Calls/Meetings with Vendors/Suppliers/Other Team Members on a Regular Basis
- Work closely with Data Center Engineers for worldwide remote hands
- Manage Enterprise servers distributed Globally in Data Centres around the world
- Participate in an oncall rota, sometimes working out of hours in times of emergency
- Involving in Provisioning/Deploying OS on servers
- Assist in tracking issues and keeping Mimecast servers operating and serving all the time
- Send reports to team on server monitoring and other activities
What You ll Bring:
- Strong knowledge of server hardware
- Strong experience in fixing server hardware faults in large scale data centres
- Strong Verbal and Communication Skills
- Good knowledge of JIRA or other equivalent ticketing systems
- Good experience installing various Linux distros such as CentOS or RHEL
- Strong knowledge experience working with Ruby on Rails
- Strong knowledge experience working with Python
- Strong knowledge on MySQL or Postgresql
- Strong knowledge on shell scripting
- Strong knowledge of Linux Operating Systems
- Good experience on handling firmware management for all server hardware components
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Especially Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong knowledge of monitoring systems such as Nagios
- Good understanding of BIOS, BMC, out-of-band/lights-out server communication methods, such as IPMI and serial console.
- Previous experience in the data center/cloud industry (Ideally 4 years but not limited to)
- Responding to requests from internal teams, ensuring efficient response and resolution
- Effective management of assigned tickets, taking initiative to find root cause of problems with analysis to reduce quantity and severity of future incidents
- A keen problem solver who can use their experience and analytical skills to troubleshoot with remote hands-on server hardware faults, connectivity loss, and power issues
- Ability to prioritise in a complex and fast-paced environment
- When required, able to work in a noisy data center environment
- Analysing Information, Technical Understanding, Innovation, Quality Focus
- Any Bachelor of Science degree
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge in Data Centre best practices (i.e. basic fault tolerance, cable routing, etc.)
- Experience working with heterogeneous server/network failures with Linux OS Junos
- Experience in data centre hardware deployments and scaling infrastructure
- Ability to adapt and drive changing demands/conditions
- Maintain effectiveness in the face of setbacks or pressure
- Networking knowledge (CCNA equivalent) will be a strong advantage
