Working under the supervision of the Operations Shift Supervisor, the Control Room Operating Engineer, 1st Class is responsible for operating, regulating, and monitoring all utility plant equipment in an efficient and safe manner. This position is located at, Washington, DC. The safety of our employees is our number one priority. All employees at ENGIE have both a duty and the authority to STOP WORK if unsafe acts are observed.
What you'll do :
- Responsible for the operation of six boilers, five emergency generators and the central chilled water plants
- Check and regulate the operation/performance of plant machinery and equipment to include gas/oil fired boilers, electric motors, fans, pumps, air compressors, piping systems, and diesel generators and other related equipment
- Work 8 hour shifts in the Central utility plant
- Assist in training new engineers
- Perform utility plant security and safety checks
- Assist in the overhaul of plant equipment
- Test power plant equipment
- Maintain and clean plant machinery, equipment and building during operations.
- Regulate the operation/performance of power plant machinery & equipment including gas/oil fired boilers, chilled water plants, emergency diesel generators, electric motors, fans, pumps, air compressors, and piping systems
- Monitor/adjust all equipment for safe & efficient operations
- Take routine plant readings and performs equipment rounds
- Maintain logs and enters information into the log computer
- Test city water, water treatment plant water, boiler water, cooling tower water, chilled water and heating hot water to make sure all quality parameters are met
- Adjust chiller plant operation to comply with service quality standards
- Perform equipment start-up procedures
- Receive information relevant to previous shift
- Set up charts on meters, controls and related systems and records initial readings
- Start up and shut down any plant equipment as required
- Carries out all other duties as assigned
What you bring :
- High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three or more years of experience as an operating Stationary Engineer in an industrial or institutional power plant.
- Stationary Steam Engineer's License required
- Valid Driver's License
- Good mechanical comprehension

Must have the ability to travel domestically and internationally on limited occasions

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
The position consists of work indoors and work outdoors, outdoor work may expose the employee to weather conditions
Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
Ability to use a company computer, calculator
Could involve some lifting
