Job description

ENGIE North America is searching for an E&I Technician Trainee at our University of Iowa location. This employee learns and applies knowledge, skills, and abilities at trainee level on-the-job (OJT) to install, operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair instrumentation and controls systems used to monitor electric utility substations, distribution and delivery of production water plant, chilled water and steam systems equipment. This part time trainee position is for active students enrolled in a Post-Secondary Level program in one of the following areas : Industrial Maintenance Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Industrial Automation, Network System Administration. or System Administration, who will then work with industrial controls systems and networks.

Reporting to the Manager of Metering and Controls, this position sits in Iowa City, IA.

What you'll do :
- Installs, operates, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs equipment for monitoring electric utility systems including low and medium voltage power monitoring equipment, control systems, fan status and ventilation, pumping systems, battery systems, various instrumentation, motor starters, motor drives, controls, valve actuators pull/terminate fiber and PLCs
- Cable and wiring control systems and equipment up to 600 volts
- Determines jobsite work sequences and safety procedures required, coordinates outages and as well as expected time for the return to service, procures materials, completes work, places systems back into service and updates SCADA systems and Historians
- Interprets and maintains wiring diagrams, schematics, updates system logs, drawings, flowcharts and documentation on utility systems
- Configures instrumentation, industrial switches and archives configurations
- Works around and medium voltages (1, 000 and 35, 000 volts) utility systems under the direction of High Voltage Electricians

What you bring :
- High school diploma or GED
- Currently enrolled in an approved Post-Secondary Associate of Applied Science degree program in : Industrial Maintenance Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Industrial Automation, Network System Administration. or System Administration
- Construction or maintenance trade experience preferred, particularly with utility systems in a utility, power plant or industrial environment
- Knowledge of tools and methods necessary to troubleshoot and maintain electrical utility monitoring equipment, instrumentation and controls systems
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in the electrical trade
- Knowledge of the trade occupational hazards and safety precautions while working in confined spaces, aerial or elevated locations, extreme temperatures, excavations, and other environmental caused conditions
- Knowledge of electrical codes, utility standards, and safety programs as governed by rules, regulations and guidelines of local, state, and national electrical and safety codes, equipment manufacturers and others
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, control system drawings and repair manuals
- Ability to perform basic math computations
- Ability to maintain records and system documentation
- Ability to analyze system problems, recommend and implement system changes
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with other department personnel, vendors and suppliers, students, staff, and the general public

- Ability to manage multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to use a company issued computer, and work with standard MS Office software applications : Teams, Word, Excel and Outlook
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions
- Must BE physically capable to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of equipment and portable radio communication.
- Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50 lbs.)
- Capable of performing repetitive motions as required
- Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, and manuals
- Must BE physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small, enclosed areas, pipes, and the like) as required
- Must BE physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses

- Salary Range : $20 - $24 USD hourly
