Job description

Job description:

Thematic and research challenges

We would like to strengthen our research activities at Subatech around the theme of "nuclear field for health".

Subatech carries out applied research into the interaction of radiation and particles with matter, focusing on the production of innovative radionuclides for diagnosis and therapy in nuclear medicine, dosimetry studies for radiobiology and non-conventional radiotherapy such as flash therapy, and ion beam analysis. Subatech masters liquid xenon detection technology for the direct detection of dark matter, and is applying this technology to 3-photon medical imaging in the context of the XEMIS2 project.

The aim of this project is to validate a new 3-photon imaging technique for small animals at Nantes University Hospital, and will open up new prospects for the use of this imaging technology on a human scale, as well as for the on-line control of hadron beams irradiating tumours.

Finally, Subatech drives the SMILES project, which aims to design, build and operate a state-of-the-art instrument to explore the potential of mass separation coupled to laser ionisation for healthcare applications, in particular the manufacture of enriched targets and/or post-irradiation isotope separations.

Eco-system and context

IMT Atlantique internationally recognized for the quality of its research, is a leading technological university under the authority of the Ministry of Industry and Digital Technologies, ranked in the three main international rankings (THE, SHANGHAI, QS).

IMT Atlantique has privileged relationships with major industrial national and international partners, as well as a dense network of SMEs, start-ups, and innovation networks. With 290 permanent faculty members, 2000 students among which 300 PhD students, IMT Atlantique produces every year 1000 publications and raises 18M€ of research funding.

The position is based on the Nantes campus in the Subatech[1] laboratory, which has a staff of 200, including around 80 engineers and technicians, 40 PhD students, 60 researchers and 20 post-docs. Subatech is fully integrated into major worldwide scientific collaborations and is at the cutting edge of research in the fields of nuclear physics, hadronics, particles and astroparticles, and radiochemistry. Subatech carries out both fundamental and applied research into energy, the environment and health. Mastering the technologies associated with these fields is a key factor in the success of the laboratory's projects.

Education

Located on 3 attractive campuses, IMT Atlantique has a strong international dynamic while remaining on a human scale. In its various master programs (4 engineering programs, 14 master’s programs), students are confronted with real-life problem situations through a variety of teaching approaches. The ambition is to train high-potential young professionals, capable of mobilizing a broad spectrum of skills in real-life situations, in all socio-economic fields, including research.

The candidate will contribute to the teaching of physics in the various courses to which the Subatech department contributes, and more specifically in the more in-depth themes relating to nuclear engineering and health in student engineering courses and masters courses.

Teaching expectations are mainly in the following areas: nuclear physics, radiation-matter interaction, dosimetry, radiation protection, instrumentation, modelling ionising radiation using Monte-Carlo codes such as GEANT4, GATE, MCNP or SERPENT.

Involved both in the core curriculum and in the elective courses, he will take part in cross-disciplinary activities in conjunction with companies: tutoring projects/internships, oral presentations, coaching, etc. He will be invited to propose new projects, programs and innovative teaching approaches. Courses can be taught in French or English. www.imt-atlantique.fr/en/study
