Job description
Context
Our client, a European financial institution, requires a full-time Operational Risk consultant to help with the management of the institutional-wide operational risk management programme. The Consultant will maintain the operational risk management framework within the Risk Management Department and will provide a second line of defence oversight of the management of key operational risks, including fraud, payment systems, information security, Cyber security, business continuity, and outsourcing arrangements. The consultant will also develop close working relationships across the organisation, including with key partners in compliance, internal audit, and internal controls; and interfacing directly with key business areas to ensure that operational weaknesses are proactively addressed.
Mission
The consultant will provide the following services:
- Assist with the risk identification, assessment and on-going monitoring and reporting activities for high-risk operational processes
- Promote the continued development of the operational risk management framework, including the operational risk management policy, measurement methodologies, GRC tools, and guidelines and directives, based on the best practice and the needs of the business
- Monitor, evaluate and challenge the organizations success in managing its operational risks
- Interface directly with key business areas to ensure that appropriate actions following operational risk incidents are agreed and facilitate the optimization/improvement of business processes and controls
The Consultant will be responsible for providing the following deliverables:
- Maintain an operational risk register, and the operational risk event database
- Monitor and report on material risk issues to executive committees, including concise statistics on risk incidents and key risk indicators
- Assist with benchmarking of the operational risk activities with best market practice, and help determine appropriate standards
- Coordinate the review and maintenance of the internal control framework for the Risk Management team, including oversight of the establishment of related process maps, Risks operating procedures and control documentation
- Assist with the development of the GRC system, Wolters Kluwers OneSumX
- Promote a culture of operational risk awareness by developing and delivering ongoing training to staff at all levels
- Coordinate the Operational Risk review of third-party providers
Skills
The Consultant will have the following profile:
Technical skills:
- More than 3 years in operational risk management, assessment of new projects/initiatives and operational risk due diligence for third parties
- Good knowledge of IT systems (e.g., GRC systems, document management systems, payment systems, and trading platforms). Knowledge of Wolters Kluver OneSumX would be considered as an advantage
Soft skills:
- Excellent level of English, able to express ideas clearly and convincingly, both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish good working relationships with staff at all levels
- Strong analytical judgement
- Integrity, reliability, and independence
- Accuracy, precision, and attention to detail
- Ability to work to deadlines without supervision
- Good organizational skills
