Job description
The Commodity Manager should have a strong Manufacturing engineering or analogous background to develop and manage suppliers within a variety of commodity groups. Commodity category assignments will include new product development and be based on the candidates strengths and experience. The Commodity Manager will assist and support the demand planning manager purchasing and other members of team to drive quality and cost improvement efforts. In this highly visible role the Commodity Manager will be expected to develop and maintain a portfolio of suppliers to drive value and significantly impact bottomline profitability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops sourcing strategies to optimize leverage in key commodity groups.
Strategically dual source all critical path commodities with domestic and or global suppliers.
Optimize supply base to reduce total suppliers by at least half.
Development of optimal global supply chains to support a strategy as well as future growth focusing on developing Key Commodity solutions which serve the entire enterprise.
Establishes clear guidelines for supplier selection responsibility consistent with overall strategies purchasing and engineering requirements.
Establish longer term relationships with key suppliers through mutually beneficial longer term supply agreements which facilitate commodity aggregation and predictable demand.
In conjunction with purchasing team identifies new or best fit incumbent suppliers to facilitate the move from transactional to serial purchase for domestic and global supply.
Support AM sales to develop and maintain key performance metrics for sales quotations fulfillment rates and others as determined by management.
Responsible for developing cost reduction activities through the supply base. Targets a minimum of 5% of spend YOY.
Analyze market conditions and assist to develop annual budgets for assigned commodities
Negotiate secure supply contracts and best value pricing agreements with critical suppliers
Help direct supplier interaction with R&D and Operations to develop new products lower overall costs ensure on time deliveries maximize volume leverage and assure supply continuity
Assist Buyers with any tactical problems they have with assigned duties.
Assist in VA/VE activities with Supplier.
All other duties as assigned.
Key Processes:
Commodity strategy development execution and implementation tracking (owns)
Procurement process (coordinates with purchasing)
New product development process (participates as purchasing representative)
Continuous cost down process (participates as purchasing representative)
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal to help expedite strategic goals of the organization.
Team player able to work effectively with all internal customers
Solid background in MRP or ERP
Microsoft office software knowledge
Knowledge of purchasing procedures and understanding of Purchasing Terms and Conditions
Must possess an excellent work ethic
Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision
High level of analytical ability to draw solid business intelligence from large amounts of data.
History of successfully resolving complex supply situations across multiple platforms or businesses
Ability to communicate and coordinate with all levels of the organization.
Ability to work in a cross functional work environment.
Excellent computer skills (MS Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook etc.).
Ability to travel domestically.
Selfmotivated with strong communication and interpersonal skills
Education and Experience:
At least 5years experience in supply chain activities in manufacturing environments preferably within multilocation businesses.
Bachelors degree in a supply chain or related field with a strong functional knowledge of metals manufacturing and or engineering
CPIM CSCP or CPSM is a plus.
