Job description:
The Laboratoire Leprince-Ringuet (LLR) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in particle physics with the CMS experiment. The LLR is a laboratory of the IN2P3 (CNRS) and the École Polytechnique, one of the engineering schools of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IPP). It is dedicated to fundamental research in high-energy particle physics and astroparticle physics. Its members work on the LHCb and CMS experiments at the LHC, the T2K, Super-K and Hyper-K neutrino experiments in Japan, and in FERMI, HESS and CTA for gamma-ray astronomy.
The CMS group at the LLR has about 30 members and focuses on measurements of the electroweak and Higgs sectors of the standard model, searches for di-Higgs production, on searches for physics beyond the standard model as well as on heavy-ion physics. The group takes a leading role in the operation of the electromagnetic calorimeter and developments of the trigger. In addition, it has key responsibilities in the R&D and construction of the high granularity calorimeter, the CMS endcap calorimeter for the high-luminosity LHC era. The main activities of the group for this project are on the mechanics, electronics, reconstruction, and triggering.
The successful candidate will be expected to work on vector boson and/or Higgs boson measurements, and develop novel techniques to constrain new physics, such as using effective field theory. In addition, contributions are anticipated to R&D and system tests for the high-granularity calorimeter. He or she will also have the opportunity to actively participate in data taking during the ongoing LHC Run 3. In these different areas, the successful candidate will be working with several PhD students.
The initial duration of this postdoctoral position will be 2 years, with the possibility of a further extension subject to the availability of funds. The position will be based at the LLR in Palaiseau (just outside of Paris), with travel to CERN (~3.5 hours by train) as needed. An extended stay at CERN for the duration of a few months would be possible. The position is expected to start by the summer of 2024. The successful candidate should hold a PhD by the time of the position start date.
For questions about the position, please contact Andrew Gilbert ([email protected])
To apply, interested candidates should send the following materials to [email protected]:
- A curriculum vitae
- A list of publications to which the candidate made major contributions, with a brief description of the candidate's contributions to each of the listed publications.
- A description of current research activities and research interests (no more than 2 pages)
In addition, applicants should arrange for two letters of reference to be sent to the same e-mail address.
For full consideration, applicants should make sure that application materials reach us no later than Friday, **22nd March**, 2024.
