- Forcewide In line with the published Posting and Tenure guidance, operational requirements will always be considered prior to confirming posting dates to successful applicants.

This advert is for available posts at Reigate, Guildford and Staines Police Stations. Posting preferences can be discussed at interview for successful candidates.
This role requires someone who is willing to guide, teach and assess the next generations of Detectives. Someone who is both passionate and dedicated when it comes to developing both themselves and others.

This is a rewarding job, where your hard work has tangible results and you are able to impact and effect the career of someone else for the better. With the introduction of the Detective Degree Holder Entry Programme (DDHEP), Surrey Police have established three PIP2 Dedicated Coaching Units (DCU) at Reigate, Guildford and Staines, with the function of supporting our new recruits to achieve a full accreditation as PIP2 investigators. With patience, perseverance, coaching and assessing skills, you can be a part of a team that delivers this training and is responsible the future detective constables. This is a fantastic opportunity to not only develop the Detectives of the future, but to also invest in and develop yourself.

Coaching will give you a unique perspective on managing the welfare of others as well as an understanding of how to mitigate the pressures your tutees will experience. Applications are invited from all PIP2 accredited Detectives who have current, or recent operational skills with the motivation and commitment to develop the next generation of Detectives. Recruitment is currently flexible to meet the demands of the organisation and the projected number of learners, therefore successful applicants will be invited to join the team as the new units grow with increased demand. As the learner detectives will be split between both CID and the Domestic Abuse Team, you will be following the shift pattern of your learners within either department. Due to the nature of coaching, there may be some requirement for you to vary your shifts from time to time as well as showing flexibility with attending and supporting other force wide PIP2 DCUs, Domestic Abuse Teams and CIDs, where required.

The Role and Key Responsibilities

You will coach up to three trainee detectives simultaneously. The trainee detectives will be embedded with and line managed on divisional-based investigative teams, therefore you will need to be able to recognise opportunities for the trainee detectives to become involved with, maintaining good relationships and lines of communication with the appropriate divisional supervisors. You will be proactive and have the ability to work with minimal supervision, managing conflicting priorities and ensuring all appropriate stakeholders are regularly updated. Whilst you will not hold your own investigative workload, you will be responsible for the progression of your learners’ investigations and expected to provide on-going direction and support in collaboration with the divisional supervisors. You will be expected to maintain your detective accreditation through the work you complete and by attending relevant CPD throughout the year.
