Job description

• You are a former Master Mariner (experience on oil carriers)
• You have a good working knowledge of goods traded by the Company (crude, petroleum products, petrochemicals, lpg, bio feedstocks), or former surveyor/inspector/superintendent with a long field experience with good knowledge in chemistry/blending.
• You have great organisational flexibility, you are prepared to invest a great deal of time and effort on a daily basis and to travel frequently
• You have analytical & synthesis skills, autonomy (especially during field missions)
• Result orientated, problem solving
• You have an excellent communicative and organizational skills, interpersonal effectiveness, high ethics and safety leadership.

T&S is a trading company in charge of all physical trading and shipping of crude oil and refined products on behalf of the TotalEnergies Company. It has been an active participant all over the supply chain as well as on the derivatives paper market in order to manage the market risk for a long time. ). As such, it operates in fast-evolving market dynamics influenced by internal and external factors that require constant adaptation and evolution.

What you will do :

The Loss Control team provides support to 250+ trading operators and physical traders worldwide, bringing technical knowledge and support for quantity and quality issues on crude, petroleum products, petrochemicals, LPG and bio feedstocks for T&S, and the crude loss analyst for the Refining & Chemicals branch of the Company.

Tasks are all these of a Cargo Loss Controller, of a Claim analyst Q&Q, of a Blending Advisor, of a Product Quality

Surveyor, such as:

Field expertise

• Liaise with and inspect storage terminals used by T&S (evaluation) to monitor and assess the technical aspects of their activity in order to minimize operational (quantity, quality) and safety risks within the Company.
• Perform storage technical visits upon trader’s or management request.
• Conduct field missions to rigorously monitor complex transportation logistics and preserve T&S interests.
• Attend key loading/discharge operations to ensure that operational results are optimized for the Company and that international rules/guidelines are duly followed.

Operational support

• Day to day support to traders and trading operators on quantity and quality issues of loading and discharging operations.
• Closely follow the quantity and quality aspects of loaded, transported, unloaded cargoes and their compliance with contractual specifications, in order to bring full technical support to trading operators in the choice of inspection companies, superintendents, and actions to be taken in case of issue (eg. off-spec product, cargo loss …).
• Maintain strong networks and good communication with the business to anticipate issues and propose solutions.
• Follow the full products blending process from theoretical blends to hand blends and actual physical blends liaising with trading operators, traders and the laboratory; provide technical expertise if need be.

Inspection and superintendent companies

• Permanently monitor the performance of inspection and superintendents companies used in the field, assess their service quality based on in-house criteria, recommend areas for improvement and store this information in the tool TROPIC.
• May assist Loss Control Manager and OTS General Manager in the following activities:
• Develop relationships; negotiate rates and global agreements with inspection and loss control service providers.
• Prepare RFPs and/or Tenders for Inspection companies and Superintendent companies on the tool TROPIC.

Knowledge Maintenance & Networking

• Keep updated on latest international rules/guidelines/standards/regulations linked with quality testing and quantity measurement in order to bring accurate information and full technical support to trading operators and traders.
• Provide trainings to relevant personnel to maintain minimum knowledge on Loss Control activity.
• Accompany from time to time trading operators on field mission (inspection, measurement, etc.), as part of their training.
• May help preparing statistical data on oil movements or quality trends for internal use or for presentation to third parties.
• May represent and defend T&S interests in international committees concerning regulations on oil transportation, quantity or quality control, and participate in task oriented working groups.
• Defend the Company against quality and quantity claims related to operations (trading) and service counterparties.
• Prepare, analyse, process and administrate crude claims for T&S and RC. Assist trading operators for insurance claims.

Reporting to the Loss Control manager, you are liaising constantly with trading operators, managers, traders, shipping, terminals, superintendents and inspection companies. As an employee of a major energy trading company you should be able to travel overseas at any time and short notice in order to protect the Company interests. You may be required to work outside normal office hours. This position requires being flexible and quick in bringing the advice and technical support as the decision taken by trading operators and traders needs to be taken promptly.
