Software Engineering Manager plays a pivotal role in leading and managing a dynamic team of software engineers and tech leaders to drive the successful delivery of high-quality software solutions in ecommerce domain – including our existing webshops and NextGen eCom platform.
This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent leadership and technical skills to mentor and support the growth of team members and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
This position involves driving innovation and ensuring the seamless integration of cutting-edge technologies.
Team Leadership:
Lead, inspire, and mentor a team of software engineers, team and tech leaders.
Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture focused on continuous improvement.
Provide guidance and support for professional development, ensuring team members reach their full potential.
Establish a solid management support structure for the team to alleviate stress and administrative work so the team can focus on what they do best – develop software.
Continuously provide context of how the development work the team is doing is aligned with the company strategy and objectives, to ensure the business result is achieved.
Work closely key business stakeholders, primarily Product Owners in all functions, to both understand their priorities, but also challenge them to ensure business value is created from the work done by the development team.
Provide fierce leadership to defend the team, especially, during moments of external chaos and stress, but also challenge the team to improve how they react and manage themselves during times of chaos and stress.
Create and foster a highly effective environment in the development squad, which also includes scrum masters, system analysts.
Drive all aspects of talent acquisition, onboarding and development.
Work with each team member (with support of Tech Leaders) to create and monitor key performance and growth plans, including career path plan that includes training, new challenges and coaching needs.
Technical Leadership:
Work closely with Tech Leaders to define the technical vision of systems and implement technical strategies.
Support and guide Tech Leaders and team members to create the Community of Practices inside the team, department and company.
Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to guide technical decision-making.
Drive the adoption of engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance processes.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with product management, QA, and other departments to ensure seamless project execution.
Communicate effectively with senior leadership on project status, risks, and opportunities.
People Planning:
Manage people allocation, ensuring the team is appropriately staffed for current and upcoming product teams.
Identify skill gaps and work with P&C to recruit and onboard new team members.
Graduate of Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Quantitative Methods or related discipline
Fluency in written and spoken English,
Experience to determine best solution for business and IT
Proven ability to be highly engaged with team members, actively listening, and addressing concerns before it becomes a problem.
Experience in managing technically strong developers, even if you don’t have these technical skills.
Experience in managing complex projects or workstreams inside larger programs.
Experience and awareness of software development methodologies, especially agile.
Able to work in cross geographical teams (primarily in Europe)
Naturally a positive person.
Confident leader that can push back and say ‘no’ when needed.
Great communication skills – discussing and consulting problems with team members, senior leaders and product owners.
