Position Overview

As a Backend Engineer - Data, you will be building cloud data processing pipelines including advanced battery science and machine learning services. You will work closely with our cloud team to improve our APIs, our access to the data, and our back-end architecture, as well as with our battery and data scientists to understand how their projects can be integrated as cloud products. You will troubleshoot and debug the integration, as well as assist in the deployment of the full systems to our customers. You should be comfortable learning and contributing quickly to cloud software, architecture, and data model design.

Key Responsibilities:

• Write quality code and tests raising the bar for team performance and speed, build prototypes, resolve issues, and profile and analyze bottlenecks
• Integrate battery science and machine learning services in our cloud data processing pipelines
• Communicate regularly with stakeholders, project managers, quality assurance teams, and other developers to understand product needs and technology roadmap
• Design robust APIs to improve access and security to our data lakes
• Optimize back-end services for performance and scalability
• Research and document improvements for our frameworks and architecture, or recommend new systems solutions

Qualifications and Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer or similar role
• 5+ years of experience in Python and NodeJS/TypeScript
• Excellent foundation in computer science, algorithms, and back-end development
• Experience in writing highly secure back-end services and applications, including authentication and authorization
• Experience in developing data processing pipelines and DAGs using Airflow
• Experience with containerization tools like Docker or Kubernetes
• Experience with core AWS services for web, containerization, and data processing
• Growth mindset that challenges the status quo and focuses on outside-the-box ideas and solutions

Nice to haves:

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in computer science
• Experience in designing data lakes, data warehousing, or other data storage and access solutions
• Experience in designing REST APIs with FastAPI and Express
• Experience in leading projects, architecting solutions, extracting requirements from client needs
