Technical Officer for the Drug Screening Platfo rm (ref. CF/24/02) Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence--a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 29 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions. IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 500 members and 45 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the "Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya" (CERCA). IRB Barcelona seeks a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to join the Drug Screening Platform at IRB Barcelona. At IRB Barcelona, we have set up a screening platform with state-of-the-art technology, which allows HTS and provides support for Hit to Lead and Lead Optimisation projects in an efficient and automated way. At the Drug Screening Platform (DSP), we support Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery projects. Our expert team provides tailored experimental support for a wide range of targets and technologies during the Candidate Discovery phase, from High-Throughput Screening (HTS) to Lead Optimisation. Currently, we are expanding our facility in order to support the scientific community and move the science a step forward to the discovery of new medicines. This contract is financed by the project "Drug-screening platform and drug-target interaction analyses", within the framework of the Complementary Plan for Biotechnology Applied to Health. From the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Funded by the EU - Next Generation EU, by which establishes a European Union Recovery Instrument to support the recovery after the COVID-19 crisis. DUTIES: Assay development (Cellular and biochemical assays) High Throughput Screening (Cellular and biochemical assays) execution in 384 format and support to H2l and LO activities. Use of automated screening platforms at user level. Support compound management activities. Perform cell culture activities. Result analysis and result reporting to DSP staff. EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS: Must Have - Required: Experience: FPII (Professional Training) or a degree on biomedical field Experience working in Tissue Culture Experience in biochemical and cell biology techniques ideally in 96/384 well formats Skills: Good Planning skills Detail-oriented Well organized Clear sense of accountability Teamwork skills Customer orientation Strong initiative and innovation abilities Ability to learn tasks quickly Enthusiasm and self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision. Desirable: Experience: More than 3 years in drug discovery in pharma/biotech/ academic research. Experience with assay development, High Throughput Screening (HTS) and compound profiling for both, biochemical and cellular assays. Familiar with a wide range of targets (enzymes, PPis, GPCRs etc) and technologies (Alpha, HTRF, FP, luminescence, etc). Familiar with HTS sample processing, data generation, data interpretation and data reporting. Familiar with HTS equipment (Echo650, multidrop, pipettors, readers, workstations such as CellExplorer etc) Knowledge : on drug discovery processes, screening equipment and technologies and a wide range of protein targets, and on how to address the assay development for each one.
