The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. What We Are Looking for
ISGlobal is seeking a person who provides highly qualified input and research support in order to better exploit the scientific contribution of the project. PhD in Microbiology or equivalent experience under analysis of whole genome sequencing (WGS) of bacteria will be determinant. This person will be in charge of taking over and managing activities of the project Development of a new intelligent and predictive tool for the early diagnosis and improved treatment of sepsis funded by Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación. The overall project goal is to develop a precision medicine solution for the diagnosis of sepsis by combining faster pathogen identification and antimicrobial susceptibility results, together with an immune system classifier method to deliver a rapid and accurate management of the patient.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE /QUALIFICATIONS
Experience on analysis of WGS of bacterial DNA, targeting Antimicrobial Resistance Genes and Virulence encoding Factors Genes and metagenomics. A person combining computer science and biology will be ideal.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
PhD in Microbiology or equivalent experience

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise the correct development of the project from a technical point of view.
Identify the project needs and find solutions on its deviations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
Analysis of the whole genome sequence data of different bacteria with different aims
Analysis of gene variation in antibiotic resistant selected mutant
Perform comparative genomics
