JOB SUMMARY:
The Research Administration Sponsored Programs Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial cash management aspects of sponsored research programs within the organization. This position involves managing the accounting and financial reporting processes for grants, contracts, and other sponsored projects. The individual ensures compliance with funding agency regulations, internal policies, and generally accepted accounting principles.
JOB DUTIES:
Financial Management:
Responsible for accurate and timely financial information of the University’s sponsored programs’ cash management and accounts receivable cycle
Coordinate with principal investigators, post-award specialists, and other stakeholders to ensure invoicing and financial records are recorded timely and accurately
Responsible for accounts receivable and collections; review bad debts, write-offs, and journal entries;
Compliance:
Ensure financial records are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Office of Management and Budget Uniform Guidance
Stay abreast of federal, state, and institutional regulations related to sponsored programs
Ensure compliance with funding agency guidelines, reporting requirements, and institutional policies
Collaborate with auditors during financial reviews and audits related to sponsored programs
Reporting:
Oversee grant accountants as they generate and distribute invoices to sponsors and agencies, as needed
Training and Support:
Provide training and guidance to research and administrative staff on financial policies and procedures related to sponsored programs
Serve as a resource for inquiries related to sponsored program accounting
Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process improvements in sponsored program accounting and implement changes as necessary
Stay informed about advancements in sponsored program accounting practices and technology
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Strong understanding of federal regulations and compliance requirements related to sponsored programs.
Proficient in financial software and systems used in research administration.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting;
Several years (6 or more) of experience in a public accounting firm;
Managerial experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in accounting or MBA;
CPA preferred;
Several years of experience in sponsored program accounting, grants management, or research administration.
