We are seeking an experienced
German Tax Manager (m/f/d)
who will report directly to the Vice President of Taxation. This individual will be responsible for all the German tax compliance (including income tax, VAT, annual returns, etc.) and the Quarterly German income tax provisions of all CCL locations in Germany. The Tax Manager will also be involved in tax research, tax strategy and special tax projects within the German tax group in coordination with the CCL corporate office in Toronto.
Regular Duties
- Prepare/review tax computations and returns for German companies based on information and analysis provided by local controllers
- Prepare/review tax notes and figures for statutory accounts
- Prepare consolidate VAT Filing
- Review subsidiary VAT Filings
- Calculate quarterly payments for the German group
- Review and advise local controllers on preparation of subsidiary level tax provisions
- Consolidate German quarterly tax provision for head office
- Manage German tax audits
- Ensure subsidiary controllers are filing necessary tax returns on a timely and accurate manner
- Ensure appropriate claims are made for any Dividend Withholding Tax
- Ensure appropriate claims are made for R&D
- Ensure the German group transfer pricing records and policies are maintained
- Develop and improve tax recording and reporting systems
- Basic bookkeeping for German holding companies
- Assess the requirement for hiring a junior tax resource
Ad Hoc Duties
- Provide tax support and direction for group restructuring exercises e.g. making necessary group transfer relief claims, working with Canada and tax advisors to ensure most appropriate tax planning steps are made.
- Keep local controllers abreast of changes in tax rules and provide general tax guidance, e.g. tax residency requests.
Key Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of German corporate tax experience
- A professional accounting designation is preferred
- Ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently
- Working knowledge of various tax research software and tax compliance software
- Detailed oriented individual with proven analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent organizational and managerial skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Motivated and diligent in maintaining current technical knowledge in Tax
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in German and in English
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Intermediate to Advanced Excel Skills
- Capacity for a reasonable amount of travel within Germany
