Job Description

Leveraging the cloud computing principle, industrial control functions can be moved from field devices (e.g., PLCs and IPCs) to industrial servers located in the plant, thus significantly reducing operation costs and increasing the plant's flexibility. Even if this paradigm can potentially bring many benefits to future factories, various technical challenges need to be addressed to achieve the same performance of a traditional control system.

• In this context you will work as member of an interdisciplinary team as a student with profound software engineering know-how and the desire to immerse yourself in this landscape, give impulses and thus help us develop new a digital solutions to shape the picture of the Factory of the Future.
• You will actively work on novel solutions and perform evaluations in the field of industrial edge computing for distributed control systems.
• You will be responsible for the technical support in the construction of demonstrator(s) of future edge-cloud control systems.
• Lastly, you will regularly prepare, present and discuss results to key stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Education: studies in the field of Computer Science, Business Informatics or comparable
• Experience and Knowledge: in agile methods, preferably Scrum; practical experience with at least two of the following topics: Python, C++, Go, Docker, DevOps, Bash Scripting, as well as strong technical/analytical skills; profound knowledge of virtualization and networking technologies
• Personality and Working Practice: team-oriented, goal-oriented, communicative, structured and independent
• Languages: fluent in English, German is a plus

Start: according to prior agreement
Duration: 6 months
