Job Description

As an IT Systems Administrator you will work in the global IT Infrastructure and Support department focusing on regional IT administration, contributing to a secure, reliable, and scalable infrastructure.

As a member of the regional infrastructure team, you will be responsible for the lifecycle management of IT infrastructure in regional offices, data centers and management of Cloud resources. You will actively participate in the implementation of group initiatives and contribute to ensure state-of-the-art infrastructure is available to TOMRA employees. You will also support divisional systems as per our PaaS offering to internal customers.

The role is based at our office in Langenfeld, near Düsseldorf. Regular business trips to our office in Mülheim-Kärlich, near Koblenz, are required. 

In this role, your responsibilities are - but not limited to:

Server Administration

• Implementation and operation of internal systems.
• Regular updates and maintenance of different server operating systems (Windows and Linux).
• Update and general maintenance of the virtualization infrastructure (mainly VMware).
• Configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting system backups, archiving, and disaster recovery.
• Providing expert support for on-prem and Cloud systems.
• Execution of disaster recovery drills.
• Work as part of the regional infrastructure team.

Network Administration

• Administration and maintenance of TOMRA network infrastructure (LAN, WAN).
• Implementation of network security according to provided guidelines.

Cloud Administration

• On-prem to Cloud network connectivity administration.
• Administration of Cloud resources according to security policies.

Audits

• Prepare for and answer audit requests for systems you maintain
• Conduct IT audits of other locations

Third Party Communication

• Communicate and work with external partners on infrastructure problems.
• Open and manage tickets with external support.

Documentation

• Keep infrastructure documentation updated, especially as a part of change management.
• On-prem and Cloud system documentation.
• Review and revise Standard Operating Procedures in collaboration with the global team of System Engineers.
• Issue documentation, incl. learnings and proposals from process adaptions.

User Support

• Provide expert support to the Helpdesk and help out with L1 requests during peaks.
• Provide L2 expert support for systems you maintain.
• Troubleshoot and escalate L2/L3 support cases.

Asset Management

• Manage server and application/service assets in a global CMDB.

Qualifications

Technical/Professional:

• University degree in Computer Science (B.Sc.) or at least 3 years of experience in a similar position.

General:

• Experience with servers and storage systems (SAN, NAS)
• Good network technology and security knowledge (WAN, LAN, WLAN)
• Windows Server (2022/2019) and Linux administration
• Extensive knowledge in virtualization technologies (VMware, HyperV)
• Extensive knowledge in hybrid (Cloud + on-prem) environments with network and VM administration
• Skills in IT Service Management
• Customer focused
• Good knowledge in Windows 11 and Office 365
• End user IT support experience
• Experience with administration of communication and collaboration systems (Exchange, Teams, O365)
• Confidence in using English and German as a work language - requesting B2 level or above.
