The „Quantum-Resistant Cryptography” Group within the Satellite Networks department deals with the development and analysis of cryptographic schemes, that enable secure communication in the age of powerful quantum computers.
In particular, we develop and extend code-based cryptosystems, efficient en- and decryption algorithms as well as new methods for cryptanalysis.
Join us in shaping the future of quantum-resistant cryptosystems and be responsible for the following topics:
- Your mission is to analyze the security of encryption methods with respect to quantum-assisted cryptanalysis methods. Here, the focus is on the analysis and identification of potential vulnerabilities. To perform the security analysis, you will develop corresponding quantum-assisted cryptanalysis methods for code-based cryptographic primitives, based on the analysis of classical cryptanalysis methods.
- You will research existing quantum-resistant encryption methods or relevant classical as well as quantum-assisted cryptanalysis methods. In particular, you will focus on methods of the current NIST standardization in the area of quantum-resistant cryptography, which are based on error-correcting codes.
- You will also pay special attention to analyzing the security of code-based cryptographic primitives in various metrics, such as the Lee metric, the sum-rank metric, or the skew metric. To this end, you will first study the underlying coding problems in detail and then apply your findings to the development of quantum-assisted cryptanalysis methods in practice.
- Furthermore, you will analyze the security of grid-based encryption methods.
- The publication of your research in journals and at conferences as well as the concrete implementation in national and international projects complete your scope of duties.
- university degree (Master's / Diplom Uni) in engineering (e.g. electrical engineering, information technology, communications engineering) or natural sciences (e.g. mathematics) or other courses of study relevant to the job, with a minimum grade of "good”
- relevant professional experience, possibly with doctorate in one of the fields
- very good knowledge and many years of professional experience in the field of communications engineering and/or cryptography
- very good knowledge and extensive experience in the field of channel coding, especially with respect to general and alternative decoding metrics such as the sum-rank metric
- very good knowledge of cryptography and/or quantum computer-resistant cryptography as well as the underlying mathematical concepts, such as rings and/or finite bodies
- very good knowledge of MATLAB and/or Python/SageMath
- experience in planning and managing scientific research projects
- experience in presenting and publishing scientific research results
- very good knowledge of English
- A prerequisite for employment at DLR is security clearance in accordance with the Security Clearance Act (Sicherheitsüberprüfungsgesetz, SÜG) and willingness to undergo a security clearance in accordance with §8 ff SÜG.
Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalleled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives. Our human resources policy places great value on a healthy family and work-life-balance as well as equal opportunities for persons of all genders (f/m/x). Individuals with disabilities will be given preferential consideration in the event their qualifications are equivalent to those of other candidates.
