Job description
European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.
For our SPB/SFX Instrument team we are looking for an
Design, fabricate and test electrical assemblies for novel scientific instrumentation
Test new and user supplied electrical equipment before use to appropriate standards
Assist scientists and engineers with preparation and installation of diverse hardware for scientific experiments
Troubleshoot, maintain and repair electrical and mechatronic devices and associated cabling
Act as responsible area manager for electrical areas of the SPB/SFX Instrument, providing on-site safety training for those areas
Maintain a close working relationship with the company responsible electrician, contribute to electrical tasks at other instruments where necessary
Certified electronics / mechatronics technician or equivalent
Knowledge of electrical CAD software (ePlan or equivalent)
Knowledge of relevant VDE electrical standards
Familiarity with the EU Machinery Directive
Familiarity with RF electronics and / or PLC systems is considered an asset
A good working knowledge of English and German, or the willingness to learn English, is beneficial
Motivation to work in a diverse, international team of scientists, engineers and technicians

Salary and benefits are similar to those of public service organizations in Germany.
