Development and experimental investigation of an induction heater design
Development and experimental investigation of a novel induction heater design
Starting date
immediately
Duration of contract
6 months
Remuneration
up to German TVöD 5
Type of employment
Full-time (part-time possible)
To enhance the field of Power-to-Heat (P2H) applications, a novel P2H concept based on induction heating was developed at DLR. The main objective of this work is to elaborate a technical design solution based on the existing numerical model, which has to be verified in an experimental setup. Main criteria for the verification are the process reliability, power density and P2H efficiency.
For this purpose, the following tasks must be addressed:
- introduction to the subject area of induction heating with an in-depth literature review
- identification of critical design aspects for an existing experimental setup
- application and improvement of numerical models (Matlab) to address the identified design aspects
- simulation studies to identify process reliable and energy-efficient design configurations with high power rates
- evaluation of configurations found and selection of a favored design to be implemented in the existing test bench
- experimental setup of the favored design with associated measurement equipment
- experimental investigation and result evaluation using Matlab tools
- deduction of design recommendations and development of a Matlab GUI for further design calculations
- preparation and writing of the thesis (in English or in German)
- completed Bachelor's degree in the field of process engineering (Verfahrenstechnik), power engineering (Energietechnik), mechanical engineering (Maschinenbau) or electrical engineering (Elektrotechnik)
- high level of ambition and initiative
- reliability, conscientiousness and ability to work independently
- programming skills in Matlab
- advanced programming skills in Matlab are desirable
- experience in expetimental work is desirable
- advanced writing skills in English or German
- A prerequisite for employment at DLR is security clearance in accordance with the Security Clearance Act (SÜG) and the willingness to undergo a security clearance in accordance with §8 ff SÜG.
