Your Role
- The PhD position is part of the MSCA Doctoral Network 'MyoTreat', Myopia - from genes and environment to cellular responses and treatment
- The PhD student will research into the development of AI-based algorithm for evaluating human very wide-field optical coherence tomography (OCT) images from retina and choroid, and investigate the impact of new optical myopia control strategies
- We are seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious PhD student to work on a project addressing with artificial intelligence the role of the morphology of the eye with images from the most advanced diagnostic tools
- Myopia is currently the most frequent developmental disorder in juvenile eyes
- The project aim is to improve the diagnostic methods and treatment options for myopia towards a better understanding of myopia development, enabling a personalized myopia control treatment
- The PhD candidate will benefit from networking with, and secondment to, other project partners in order to gain understanding and access knowledge from others
- The doctoral candidate will utilize cutting-edge techniques in eye diagnostics like most advanced OCT, image processing, data science, and artificial intelligence
Your Profile - Deep knowledge in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science)
- Not already in possession of a doctoral degree
- Not have resided or carried out your main activity in Germany for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the recruitment date
- Knowledge of Technical Optics preferable
- A completed subject-related master degree
- Knowledge of Matlab and a confident handling of statistical tools
- A confident manner and independent working style as well as a high degree of reliability and commitment
- A very good command of written and spoken English
