Job description
The Institute for Hygiene and Microbiology of the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg combines clinical diagnostics and state of the art research in infectious diseases with services in patient care. The Chair for Medical Microbiology and Mycology is among the internationally leading centers for the diagnosis of invasive fungal infections. Our research focuses on the infection biology, epidemiology, and diagnosis of invasive fungal pathogens.

Doctoral Researcher (PhD, f/m/d)(TV-L, 65%).
Aufgaben:
The successful candidate will perform cutting-edge research on host-pathogen interactions during Candida albicans infection, using immunology and microbiology techniques. Work will be performed in an experienced team of basic and physician scientists in an internationally visible research group in medical mycology. The successful candidate will be aided by experienced postdoctoral researchers in the lab and will be enrolled in the Graduate school training program of the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg. Your research tasks will include: - Mouse models of fungal and bacterial infection
- Characterization of murine immune responses using flow cytometry, ELISAs, etc.
- Analysis of host-pathogen interactions between fungal pathogens and immune cells
- Fluorescence microscopy
- RNA isolation and sequencing
Qualifikationsprofil:
Your profile: - Willingness to work with mice is essential, and experience with working with mice is advantageous
- A Felasa B certificate or its equivalent is required; in its absence, willingness to obtain the certificate is required
- Strong interest in infection biology, immunology and microbiology
- MSc (or equivalent) in life sciences - candidates in the final stages of obtaining their degree are eligible to apply
- Background in immunology, microbiology, or related fields
- Experience with immune cell isolation, flow cytometry, molecular biology, microscopy and cell culture is advantageous
- Good English language skills are required, and German language skills are advantageous
Benefits:
The position is available from June 2024 and will initially be limited to three years.
Remuneration will be based on the collective agreement for the public service of German federal states ( Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst der Länder , TV-L) and be based on 65% part-time.
