Heat Transfer Engineer for Technology Development
Location
Mülheim an der Ruhr | Germany
Job description
A Snapshot of Your Day
This position is in SE GS C LGT EN TDA CT in the Advanced concept group (AC), based in Germany and USA , which is responsible for developing new aero-thermal technologies and concepts for new gas turbine designs.
You will work both independently and collaboratively with a team of engineers with multidisciplinary design background and distributed across multiple locations. You will develop new aero-thermal technologies for specific features or complete parts within the turbine section of a gas turbine.
Depending on the project you will also design the new technologies into test articles and work with manufacturing engineers on manufacturing them and with test engineers on testing them in real engine environment.
You will be also responsible for the post processing of test results from rig and engine tests, to analyze experiments against predictions for the validation of the respective design tools.
In this light you will work closely with engineers from other disciplines, manufacturing, and with internal product teams, with whom you will implement the developed technologies in the related products, e.g. blades and vanes of gas turbine components.
Continuous learning will take place, through execution of tasks and activities, application of discipline knowledge, implementation of innovative thinking and ideas, and through attendance of specific courses, both technical and non-technical.
How You'll Make an Impact - Developing new technologies to help achieving state-of-the-art performance in terms of efficiency, component life, robustness, and manufacturability
- continuous improvement of the tools landscape, including heat transfer specific tools, tool chains, and automated workflows, through utilization of tools and data reduction activities, providing ideas for improvement in functionality, efficiency, analysis fidelity, including identification of AI/ML opportunities (with follow-on support)
- Contribution to vital engine and component testing, critical for validation of designs, analyses, and tools, by providing engine test and validation requirements, preparing test predictions and performing post-test data reduction and analyses
- Managing all relevant interfaces by working closely with design, manufacturing, and testing to ensure the developed technology is supporting their needs
What You Bring
- University degree in mechanical, aerospace, or materials engineering, with a focus on thermo-mechanics
- Experience and familiarity in turbo-machinery, fluid systems, or similar applications
- Strong knowledge of heat transfer discipline fundamentals
- Multiple years experience with aerothermal CFD method development and application as well as computational and programming skills proficiency (e.g. APDL, python, CAD)
- Understanding of manufacturing process of turbine parts would be desirable
- Professional communication skills - both verbally and in writing (English)
