Thermo-Optical Simulation
Further development of a thermo-optical simulation of a receiver for a concentrating solar thermal power plant
Starting date
immediately
Duration of contract
6 months
Remuneration
up to German TVöD 5
Type of employment
Full-time
Scientists at the Institute of Solar Research are developing solar thermal tower power plants. In such power plants, sunlight is concentrated by mirrors (so-called heliostats) onto a radiation receiver and converted into heat. In the research project, a new type of receiver is being developed that works with liquid salt as a heat transfer medium. By increasing the process temperatures to 600°C, cost reduction potentials can be realized.
The content of your thesis is the further development and validation of the thermo-optical simulation for the optimization of the solar receiver operation. The simulation is a thermal simulation in ANSYS, which is coupled with a radiation map derived by a ray tracing model. This simulation should be validated on the basis of the measurement data that is being collected during the current measurement campaign of the receiver at the Jülich solar tower.
