Group Leader as Platform Leader (m/f/d) - Genome editing in preclinical disease models

Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg

Location

Heidelberg | Germany

Job description

wanted at the next possible time at Department of General Pharmacology.

The genome editing platform will be established within the Department of General Pharmacology (Prof. Dr. Marc Freichel) and in the context of the Health + Life Science Alliance Heidelberg Mannheim (). The group will have resources for the position of the leader, consumables and technical support. Support will also be provided for acquiring additional third-party funding. The platform will have close connections to existing core facilities and platforms of the Health + Life Science Alliance and its seven institutions, as well as research consortia such as the German Health Centers (DZHK, DKTK, DZL, DZIF) and Collaborative Research Centers (CRCs) at Heidelberg University. Collaboration with these institutions and research consortia is explicitly desired. Additionally, an interest in participating in new collaborative initiatives, including new clusters of excellence, is expected.

The research and tasks of the platform include:

• Development and optimization of genome editing procedures: The group works on developing new technologies and methods for precise genome editing and further advancing existing procedures. This includes techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9, Base Editing, and Prime Editing.

• Establishment of preclinical disease models: By applying genome editing techniques, preclinical disease models are developed in mice and other animal or organoid models. These models allow for investigating the molecular basis of diseases, identifying signaling pathways, and exploring new therapeutic approaches.

• Development of in vitro models: The Junior Research Group also utilizes in vitro models derived from iPS cells. These cell models enable the investigation of disease mechanisms in a controlled environment and the testing of potential therapeutic approaches.
