What to Expect
Tesla`s Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical component development and qualification activities at suppliers. This position involves communicating well with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and on-the-spot critical decision making. Tesla is a fast moving, dynamic environment where flexibility and adaptability are key attributes needed for success. A successful candidate will be a self-starter, motivated and quick learner. This role specifically narrows in on the technical evaluation of resin and carbon fiber materials used to create parts across automotive and energy products.
What You`ll Do
- Plan, organize, direct and conduct industrialization related activities with supply chain team.
- Develop, Manage, Improve and Correct supplier planning and execution of compounding and quality control processes from the R&D phase to mass production qualification.
- Provide leadership for New Production Introduction (NPI) at Suppliers and Tiers.
- Conduct and implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) feedback into our design.
- Lead supplier improvements in scalability, cost, and quality
- Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between Suppliers and Tesla Purchasing, Quality, and Design teams.
- Accountable for supplier audits to ensure their ability to meet material performance, delivery, and reliability expectations.
- Collaborate with Tesla Design, Material Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing to determine the ideal performance specifications and supplier metrics.
- Accountable for leading, tracking and improving supplier manufacturing process development and launch readiness for new products and design changes.
- Guide suppliers in developing exceptionally robust processes and procedures to promote efficient and seamless production of high-quality products.
- Validate supplier corrective actions involving design and/or process changes to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar potential concerns across manufacturing lines and/or suppliers.
- Provide input on new or alternative materials for improved design, manufacturability, or cost reduction.
- Qualify the right suppliers for the company need ensuring design specifications are met to the highest standards
- Root cause and drive solutions for production deviations originating from incoming product
- Project manage the supply chain scope at a global level driving steps forward and continuous improvement on the technical and cost reduction level.
What You`ll Bring
- Degree Materials/Mechanical/Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, Polymer Science, or evidence of experience and exceptional ability
- Knowledge of injection/compression molding and resin compounding
- Practical Six Sigma experience
- Experience in Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering
- Knowledge of PPAP/APQP processes and automotive technical knowledge Experience of statistical tolerance analysis, design quality assessment, and improvement technique
- GD&T knowledge, ability to perform stack up tolerance analysis
- General automotive technical knowledge
- Supplier development and management experience
- Hands on and ready to work on a fast-paced environment
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Domestic and international travel (expected 30 – 40% of the time), sometimes on short notice
- Knowledge and understanding of cross functional components throughout the automotive and energy products.
