Free-space optical communication (FSOC) is a technology offering advantages over established radiofrequency communication, i.e., higher bandwidth, lower power consumption, and higher link security. However, well-known limiting factors are signal distortions that are caused by atmospheric effects such as turbulences. We want to mitigate these effects by manipulating the atmospheric channel for FSOC.
We are looking for hosting a student to study recent publications about state-of-the-art techniques for atmospheric channel manipulation. The work includes reading of publications and summarizing of theoretical models and experiments. The result will be a presentation and discussion on recently demonstrated techniques and experimentally achieved results.
The thesis shall comprise the following tasks
• Study of state-of-the-art knowledge
• Summarizing the available publications
• Documentation and presentation of work
