The Department of Neurology at the UKSH Kiel is a highly dynamic research environment that is nationally and internationally competitive in neurological research, in particular Parkinson’s disease. The PhD project focus on data analysis identifying sensor-based movement signatures in the lab and at home of patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). How can sensors provide (personalized) measures of PD severity? In what respect do these sensor-based movement signatures change under treatment?

- Integration into multidisciplinary teams at the Dept. of Neurology, UKSH Kiel (Working groups: Integrative data analytics, Neurogeriatrics)
- Excellent and comprehensive supervision
- Being in exchange with and learning from experienced data analysts (of our working groups and our collaboration partners in the pharmaceutical industry)
Requirements:
- Strong academic background and a Bachelor in Biotechnology and Master in Medical Life Sciences or a related field with experience in machine learning and statistics and data analysis
- Proficiency in handling large amounts of data using various tools - all programming languages are welcome, especially R and the R package GGIR & Python
- The ability to process and analyze large structured and unstructured data, identify patterns and apply data mining and predictive analytics and to identify and evaluate, in close interaction with us, unknown relationships in data in order to gain clinically relevant insights and responsibility for conducting explorative data analyses in complex data structures
- Familiarity and understanding of state-of-the-art machine learning methods, model selection and deep learning concepts, as well as c ombining strong theoretical and analytical skills with programming experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (German B2 or B1) in an interdisciplinary environment
