As a Data Scientist in the trivago bidding and recommendations team, you'll have a direct impact on the mechanisms that govern trivago’s marketplace and monetization. You will design, implement, and improve our bidding algorithms and evaluate their performance on live data. By working closely with auction, ranking, engineering, and sales teams, your mission will be to optimize the bidding strategy and help advertisers to spend marketing budget and maximize incremental value. How you’ll make an impact:
- Evaluate algorithm performance to identify improvement opportunities by understanding the balance between short and long-term trends
- Push new ideas into production and apply state-of-the-art models while keeping business priorities, trade-offs, and technical feasibility in mind
- Design and analyze large-scale A/B tests to continuously improve and iterate on trivago's bidding algorithms
- Create, develop, and maintain metrics on dashboards to measure the value generated for our users, advertisers, and trivago
- Proactively communicate, share your conclusions, and explain complex topics tailored to diverse audiences
- Propose and develop new products to support the campaigns of our advertisers
What you’ll need to thrive:
- At least 4 years of experience working in data science or machine learning
- A degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics or another quantitative discipline
- An exceptional understanding of data analysis, statistics concepts, and A/B testing
- Experience working with SQL and knowledge of big data technologies (Hive, Impala, Spark, etc.)
- Proficiency in programming in Python and relevant data manipulation packages (e.g. pandas, pyspark)
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and confidence in presenting ideas and findings to stakeholders with the right level of detail
- Ability to work well independently, understand data science fundamentals, be meticulous, and prioritize effectively
What makes you stand out:
- Experience working with Google Cloud Platform
- Experience with Bayesian statistics and probabilistic programming in tools like Stan, PyMC, or TensorFlow Probability
- Solid organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities
