Job description

AEG Power Solutions offers a wide range of future-oriented career opportunities for people with the appropriate skills and the drive to make the difference in an agile, customer-focused, and global organization. AEG Power Solutions is looking for team players who want to continue to efficiently secure power supply to all types of infrastructures, contribute to renewable energy integration with its energy storage solutions and hydrogen production solution.

Put the skills you have acquired during your studies into practice and complete your final thesis with us.

The turnaround in traffic towards more electric vehicles goes hand in hand with the establishment of the necessary charging infrastructure. The number of electric vehicles in Germany is currently increasing rapidly. These are usually charged at home, at work or in public parking lots. Here, charging usually takes place slowly via connections of up to 22 kVA from the low-voltage AC grid.

There is hardly any infrastructure for fast charging of vehicles with high power in 20-30 minutes. Some of the few fast-charging stations are connected to medium-voltage (MV) grid via transformer and low-voltage (LV) AC distribution, typically in 400 Vac. Hence, the required raw material and cost of the AC distribution are high.

Objective of this ongoing research project is to develop and demonstrate a novel fast charging technology based on +/- 1.5 kV or +/- 2.5 kV DC distribution. For each fast charger an isolated DC/DC converter will be applied (see circuit diagram below). In previous project phase the power circuit of the DC/DC converter and the basic control platform was developed and implemented.
