The Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology in Jena is seeking an

Executive Assistant (f/m/div) (Dept.: Prof. Dr. Ricarda Winkelmann, „Evolutionary Earth Systems Science”)

at the earliest possible date for two years, with the option of an extension.

The Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology, founded in the summer of 2022, is a dynamically growing, highly international, and interdisciplinary research institution. Our research focuses on modeling and analyzing the interrelationships between natural and human-made systems, looking into the deep past and distant future to examine how humanity has driven the emergence of the Anthropocene – the geological period in which human activities began significantly impacting our planet’s climate and ecosystems – and how we can still positively influence its course.

The transdisciplinary research at MPI-GEA will bring together research areas represented by all three scientific sections of the MPG: biology and medicine; chemistry, physics, and technology, and human sciences. Corresponding inter- and transdisciplinary research projects concern, for example, planetary urbanization, the global food system, and global material, energy, and information flows.

Your tasks
You will support the head of the scientific department in all aspects of scientific management and administrative matters, working in close liaison with the other departments, the administration, as well as the shared service units of the institute.

This position is ideal for people with strong organizational and interpersonal skills who enjoy challenges and are able to prioritize work tasks effectively, work collaboratively, and solve a wide range of problems confidently.

Your tasks will be: Your profile
You must have at least a master’s degree in one of these fields: natural sciences, social sciences, communication science, or English studies and proof of experience in academic administration. Knowledge of theory and modeling of complex dynamics in the Earth system are desirable. We also require experience in project management, familiarity with the German and international research landscape, experience of external funding acquisition, and excellent knowledge of German and English. In addition, you should have outstanding communication and teamwork skills, flexibility, resilience, a highly organized way of working, and experience or interest in working in an international setting. Our ideal candidate is well versed in time management, has excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. The position involves a lot of traveling.

Our offer
We offer you a full-time or part-time employment (at least 30 hours per week) contract initially limited to two years and an attractive salary in accordance with TVöD Bund in line with the specific job description and your personal requirements up to payment group 13 as well as an additional annual bonus. You are entitled to 30 days’ holiday and time off on December 24 and 31. We also offer attractive and family-friendly flexitime and home office arrangements. A company pension scheme (VBL), an employer subsidy for a job ticket, the opportunity for further training and language and health courses rounds off our offer.
