At the DLR Institute for Data Science in Jena, innovative methods for the semantic description of data and services based on this are developed in the "Metadata Management" working group. In particular, knowledge graphs and ontologies are used, which allow even complex relationships to be described in a machine-understandable way. The work takes place in close cooperation with experts from different domains.
We offer you the opportunity to carry out a thesis, a mandatory internship or a student job in the field of scientific (meta-)data collection for experimental research domains and their application in data management. As part of an international team, you will develop methods and software solutions for the data management systems of tomorrow. You will analyse and develop your own methods, software or models with a focus on improving research data management in scientific environments where scientists collect (meta)data during their daily work, e.g. during modern laboratory experiments. Possible topics range from the evaluation of existing solutions under different conditions to data preparation/generation and the improvement or development of ready-to-use components for scientists. One of the important topics is the use of speech recognition and natural language processing (NLP) for scientific (meta-)data management in the context of the digitization of scientific domains.
