Job description

The Charité is one of the largest university hospitals in Europe, representing a single medical faculty that serves both Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and Freie Universität Berlin. Clinical care, research and teaching is delivered by physicians and researchers of the highest international standard. The Charité extends across four campuses, and has close to 100 different Departments and Institutes, which form a total of 17 different CharitéCenters.

Junior Professorship with tenure track
(Endowed Professorship) for
“E-Health and Shared Decision Allocation”

(Initially limited to 6 years, with tenure track to W2)
Salary bracket: W1 under the BBesG-ÜfBE

The employment occurs as a professor with an employment contract in accordance with § 102 Abs. 5 BerlHG. Teaching obligations are based on the Teaching Obligation Ordinance for Berlin ( LVVO ).

The professorship is in principle endowed with a tenure track. The junior professorship is limited to six years. In the penultimate year, following a successful tenure evaluation and given the formal requirements for employment are met, the incumbent will be transferred to a tenured associate (W2) professorship, in accordance with § 102c of the Berlin Higher Education Act (BerlHG). Procedures, processes and performance criteria are set out in the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin’s statute governing tenure-track professorships .

The professorship can also be held on a part-time basis in combination with clinical work, but only if the candidate has completed further training as a specialist in anaesthesiology, in order to achieve clinical translation. We expressly welcome applications from candidates with expertise in a wide range of areas relating to the digital creation of clinical guidelines.

The future professor is expected to fulfil the following responsibilities and criteria:

  1. Representation of the subject "„E-Health and Shared Decision Allocation" in research, teaching and academic self-administration in compliance with the standards of robust, reproducible, transparent and responsible science, including the consideration of gender and diversity. Clinical work is possible with appropriate qualifications.
  2. The professorship should strengthen the research focus on "digital clinical medicine". Close scientific interaction with methodologists and clinicians is desired in order to develop a centre of excellence for guideline digitisation.
  3. Integration into relevant research foci and research networks and into interfaculty research networks / graduate colleges of the Charité, as well as in Charité's future-oriented strategic initiatives ( Charité 2030 and Charité Internationalisation Strategy ).
  4. Appropriate international reputation in the field of research, proven by corresponding publications and successful acquisition of third-party funding and collaborative projects.
  5. Well-founded teaching experience, excellent didactic skills and willingness to actively participate in shaping the medical education curriculum at the Charité as well as ensuring sound postgraduate education and training and commitment to the promotion of young physicians and scientists.
  6. Cooperation with the (pre)clinical and clinical facilities of the Charité and other institutions in Berlin and Brandenburg.

    Applicants must demonstrate through their previous scientific work that they fulfil the above expectations of the junior professorship and actively contribute to the scientific activities in the field of digital clinical medicine and complement the existing research activities in these areas at Charité.


Qualification s According to § 102a BerlHG in connection with § 102c BerlHG the academic prerequisites for this position include a completed university degree and an outstanding doctorate in human medicine, natural or life sciences or a comparable field. In addition, applicants should have a particular aptitude for scientific work and pedagogical aptitude.

International applicants should have a German language diploma / certificate (according to the Conference of Ministers of Culture) at least at C1 level (specialised language skills).
