Free-space Optical (FSO) communications enable the implementation of communication systems with very high data rates, maintaining small terminal sizes and low power consumption at the same time. In the past years, DLR’s Optical Satellite Links department has been developing a system to transmit data through an optical link reliably. This implies the ability to protect the data from the atmospheric disturbances that cause the degradation of the optical signal. These disturbances are caused by the variation of the physical conditions of the atmosphere in time and space along the optical path, such as changes in temperature, wind speed, etc.

For these terminals, FPGAs are being used to accomplish multiple tasks and prepare the data to be transmitted though the FSO channel in space missions. Such missions require to assure a reliability level proper of space terminals which implies a long development period. In order to minimize such development time software methodologies such as continuous development/continuous integration (CD) are look upon.

The goal of this master thesis is to build up the required CD/CI infrastructure and then integrate onto it the proper hardware in the loop. This build up will encompass hardware selection and the design of a methodology for the team to follow in the use of this new platform. Finally, the integration of hardware in the loop will be analyzed and a prototype will be integrated with the available hardware.

Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalleled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives. Our human resources policy places great value on a healthy family and work-life-balance as well as equal opportunities for persons of all genders (f/m/x). Individuals with disabilities will be given preferential consideration in the event their qualifications are equivalent to those of other candidates.
