Purpose of Job:
Managing the technical developments in our specialty alumina product portfolio and related applications, such as purification, catalysis, thermal management in polymer systems, automotive, etc.
These developments have a global reach and are executed in close cooperation with our Asian and American Technical/Sales team. The corresponding technical activities are mainly conducted in the Martinswerk (application) laboratory (Bergheim, Germany).
Main Responsibilities:
- Initiating, supporting, and leading of new product development project(s); playing an active role in proof-of-principle experimentation in new product development phase.
- Leading the Customer Technical Service activities for existing products as well as for new product or application developments; building professional relationships with (strategic) customers.
- Developing analytical and application tools and methods for new emerging business opportunities related to regulation changes, specific trends in industries, product needs in new technologies, etc., specifically for specialty alumina applications.
- Defining and coordinating of projects and customer technical service activities in agreement with our Sales team and technical professionals in our Martinswerk (application) laboratory.
- Attending of technical workshops and conferences; reviewing professional publications and patents; establishing personal networks with customers, suppliers, universities/institutes within the specialty alumina community.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- PhD degree in inorganic materials chemistry and/or engineering, or related studies in material chemistry / science.
- Couple of years professional experience in industries within specialty alumina segment preferred.
- Proven track record in (advanced) inorganic material developments and applications; affinity with polymer composites and organic chemistry preferred.
- Experience in evaluating of new technologies and early adoption/applications.
- Good team player; people management, and communication skills, experience in leading a technical team and managing laboratory activities.
- Fluent language skills in English; German language skills preferred.
- Travel – up to 30% in a global setting, mainly Europe.
