The Opportunity
As Principal Toxicologist you will be responsible for developing the toxicology strategy of assigned programs in the CSL pipeline as well as for the design, adequate budgeting, and monitoring of non-clinical safety studies conducted internally and externally both in a GLP and non-GLP environment. Interpretation and communication of non-clinical safety data with global cross-functional project teams, external experts, and health authorities is a key deliverable in this position. The successful candidate will also contribute individually as well as oversee the activities of small, global team of functional experts.
This position also includes shared responsibility to coordinate CSL’s global 3R initiatives within R&D.; This involves implementation of new developments in this field and participation in relevant external working groups.
The Role
- Your main responsibility in this role will be to develop toxicology strategies and provide toxicological expert support to research and development projects
- You will oversee and manage toxicology programs along clinical development up to marketing and serve as function’s representative across activities related to toxicology
- Another focus will be for you to plan, monitor, analyze and report preclinical toxicology studies conducted internally or in collaboration with external contract research organizations (CROs) for selected projects
- As expert in the field you will prepare toxicological risk assessments to support drug development and manufacturing and actively collaborate with global, cross-continental project teams
- Preparing and reviewing non-clinical documents as part of regulatory submissions and interactions and supporting the preclinical evaluation of external assets and in-licensing opportunities will be part of your main responsibilities
- You will maintain a high level of awareness of scientific developments and the competitive environment to assist on ongoing strategic re-evaluation of ongoing programs
- Another focus for you will be to actively establish and foster a high quality, global network with relevant experts internally and externally
- You will oversee, stimulate and support internal 3R initiatives at various CSL functions and coordinate CSL’s contribution to international 3R initiatives/working groups, e.g. industry-academia collaborations
Your Skills and Experience:
- Postgraduate degree (preferably M.Sc. or PhD, DVM, PharmD) in Life Sciences or closely related fields with toxicology training, board certification preferred
- A minimum of 5 years as non-clinical toxicologist in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical or CRO setting
- Relevant experience in Biopharmaceutical development (protein, monoclonal antibodies) and Immunotoxicology
- Additional experience in development of gene therapies, RNA based therapies and/or small molecules of advantage
- In depth knowledge of relevant regulatory guidelines
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to identify and engage internal and external expertise as needed.
- Experience in authority interactions/ authority commission work regarding 3R and ethics topics
- Strong scientific background in at least one of the following therapeutic areas: hematology, immunology, transplantation, cardiovascular disease, pulmonology
- Fluent in English and German, oral and written
