Are you interested in renewable energies and want to drive forward the energy transition in the shipping industry? Then you've come to the right place!

The DLR Institute of Maritime Energy Systems researches and develops innovative solutions for the defossilisation and emission reduction in shipping. In co-operation with industry, these solutions are put into practice. To this end, the institute is setting up a large-scale infrastructure to test and trial the newly developed energy systems in a standardised laboratory environment and under real conditions. The institute will be divided into six scientific departments. In the Ship Reliability department, the focus is on the development of design methods for the integration and evaluation of the reliability of new energy systems in ships.

As part of an R&D project, the increase in the service life of additively manufactured components is to be investigated using hybrid manufacturing processes. The project primarily aims to accelerate the prediction of the residual stress state of components manufactured using the WAAM (wire-arc-additive-manufacturing) process and to evaluate the fatigue strength of various manufacturing strategies.
