your profile

You have a university degree (master's or comparable) in computer science and can meet the following requirements:

• At least one year of professional experience in IT security within an IT security team protecting a larger infrastructure with at least 100,000 active network ports.
• Experience in analyzing security incidents using a Security Information and Event Management System (SIEM), particularly configuring Logstash, Kibana and Elastic Search.
• Good knowledge of using security scanners and assessing Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) in relation to local infrastructure.
• Good knowledge of developing Ruby on Rails and Python applications.
• Practical experience in configuring next generation firewalls and using Access Control Lists (ACL).
• Strong knowledge of common operating systems (Linux, MacOS, Windows).
• Interested in taking advantage of a wide range of further education and training courses for your professional and personal development in the areas of attack techniques and threat scenarios.
• You have ITIL certification.
• Ability to prioritize difficult tasks under time pressure and move them forward in a structured manner.
• You value a collegial and loyal team.

Your tasks

In the Networks department of the IT Center, you will take on tasks in the SOC team. This has a wide range of options for defending against cyber attacks against the university network, such as:

• Identification and analysis of security incidents and cyber attacks against the RWTH Aachen network.
• Coordinating appropriate responses to cyber security incidents.
• Evaluate and analyze security incidents in the SIEM environment.
• Optimization and further development of rules for the automatic identification of potential attacks.
• Carrying out security scans of the local infrastructure and fixing security gaps.
• If necessary, mobile deployments on the RWTH Aachen campus to process security incidents.
• Participation in the SOC on-call team (including driving company vehicles).
• We support you in your desire for further training and professional specializations across the entire range of tasks.
