Animal Technician Assistant / Lab Manager for a Biomedical Imaging Lab

The National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) is a long-term cooperation between the DKFZ, excellent partners in university medicine and other research institutions at six locations in Germany. The goal of the NCT is to bring promising results from cancer research into clinical application quickly and safely. This approach is intended to provide cancer patients with nationwide access to innovative treatment options.

One of the six NCT sites is the NCT Dresden (NCT/UCC), which is a collaboration between the DKFZ, the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden (UCC), the Carl Gustav Carus Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden and the Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR).

For the Biomedical Optical Imaging Laboratory of the Department for Functional Imaging in Surgical Oncology at the NCT site in Dresden, we are looking for a highly skilled animal technician to perform animal experiments and imaging in our biomedical optical imaging laboratory.

Aufgaben:

In this role, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare while supporting the development of new biomedical imaging technologies. If the applicant's profile and interests allow, this role could also include laboratory management responsibilities.

Your primary responsibilities will involve conducting and overseeing animal experimentation, coordinating study protocols, and ensuring the accurate collection of data - all while ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards. Additionally, you will collaborate with our multidisciplinary team of scientists to plan and execute imaging experiments, as well as collaborate with researchers and veterinary staff to ensure the health and well-being of the animals. Responsibilities extend to assisting in the upkeep of laboratory equipment, supplies, and inventories.

Qualifikationsprofil:

To excel in this position, the ideal candidate should have a completed apprenticeship as a technical assistant / biology lab technician and possess extensive experience in animal experimentation and welfare, preferably in a research or academic environment. A FELASA certification or equivalent is required. Desired qualifications include experience in rodent procedures and colony management. Familiarity with larger animals and imaging techniques is beneficial but not mandatory. Essential skills for success in this role include strong organization, meticulous attention to detail, and a comprehensive understanding of regulatory guidelines and ethical principles related to animal research. Proficiency in both verbal and written communication in English is a prerequisite for daily work, with a preference for German language proficiency, although it is not mandatory.
