The Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG) of John Deere in Kaiserslautern develops future trends and technologies in the area of mobile agricultural and construction machinery in cooperation with different research centers. In addition, ISG develops and sells products and services in the area of precision farming using global satellite based navigation systems (GNSS), automated steering systems, machine automation, sensor technologies, telematic system solutions, web applications as well as apps for mobile devices to optimize farming processes and to support decision making.

 

The John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group in Kaiserslautern is offering a  contingent/leasing position ("Arbeitnehmerüberlassung")for a

 

Software Engineer with focus on Data Processing (m/f/d)

 

As Software Engineer with focus on Data Processing you will work on the backend side of our Web Application Suite to help users Setup, Plan, Monitor, and Analyze the work they execute with our connected machines in the field or at their construction site. Our Web Application Suite currently is connected to tens of thousands of machines via the backend and will be key to operate them as they get more and more autonomous by leveraging sensors and data.

We operate as a global team in a collaborative and open environment using the latest in web and cloud technologies as we build the future of Precision Agriculture and Construction.

 

Your specific responsibilities being part of a full-stack product development team will include:

• Designing and developing high-performant data processing pipelines on our cloud infrastructure for large geospatial data
• Developing and maintaining our cloud infrastructure on AWS
• Engaging in all aspects of the software delivery cycle including design, implementation, building, (automated) testing, deployment, and support
• Participating in Agile Software Development activities including team sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and team retrospectives
• Collaborating with Product Managers, UX /UI Designers, SW Architects, Testers, Customer Support representatives and other supporting teams
• Being an active member of the global John Deere developer community

 

Your qualifications:

• University degree in Business Informatics, Computer Science, or comparable qualification
• 2+ years of professional experience as a software developer in the development of backend code using Python 3 and Python standard libraries/tools.
• Deep knowledge and practical experience in linear algebra
• Knowledge and practical experience in unit testing and integration testing with mocks
• Solid understanding of architectural styles and patterns of modern backend architecture, including micro-services, serverless solutions, containerization, etc.
• Experience as a member of an agile software development team
• Fluent English skills with an excellent faculty of expression in word and writing
• Good German skills are desirable.

 

This makes you stand out:

• Knowledge in geospatial data processing, computer graphics, and solution strategies for optimization problems
• Broad experience in working with continuous integration tools (like GitHub, Jenkins, or Drone), building pipelines and test automation.
• Experience with Java and Spring
• Knowledge in developing (RESTful) APIs
• Knowledge in data formats like DXF, LandXML, IFC, Protobuf
