The focus of the DLR Institute for Data Science in Jena is to find solutions for the major challenges of the digitalisation age. The research focuses on the areas of data extraction and mobilisation, data management and preparation, and data analysis and intelligence.

The Working Group “Metadata Management” addresses topics in the area of semantic descriptions of data, development of ontologies and semantically enhanced systems. These topics are addressed in both DLR-internal as well third-party-funded projects.

The advertised position is in particular concerned with provenance data at the boundary between physical and digital world. It is part of a project in the area of circular economy that develops and evaluates methods to reduce the amount of primary resources in various application areas.

Your task is the development of ontologies to describe the provenance of real-world objects. Besides the definition of vocabularies, this includes developing models for provenance data and to develop corresponding tools that allow for fine-grained access control to the collected provenance information. You will be contributing to the digitalisation of manufacturing and to saving valuable resources on the path to a circular economy!
