The multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team of microbial biotechnology at Ruhr University Bochum is devoted to developing new biocatalysts and reaction strategies towards compounds of relevance for health and industry. With the overarching goal to reach a more sustainable economy, we identify and optimize enzymes (from gene to product) and integrate them into complex reaction cascades. Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation to acheive biotechnological break-throughs. As part of an industry-academia consortial project, we currently offer a 36-month position for a graduate student aiming towards a PhD degree.

Your research project focuses on the optimization of a biocatalytic redox reaction. This will include methods of enzyme engineering, coupling with other chemo- and biocatalytic reactions, as well as reaction optimization, and scaling from analytical to multi-liter scale.
