The department also plays a pivotal role within TU Darmstadt's focused research area, Information + Intelligence. The successful candidate will join the Department of Computer Science, contributing actively to groundbreaking research as a member of the Hessian Center for Artificial Intelligence - hessian.AI.
We seek to appoint a proficient scientist with a distinguished track record and strong international presence, or an exceptionally promising early-career researcher with outstanding potential. This individual will represent the field of AI Programming Systems in both research and teaching capacities. Potential research areas include, but are not limited to:
Prospective candidates for a W2 Assistant Professorship on a tenure track are expected to exhibit early achievements in pertinent research domains, emphasizing their potential for growth. For those aspiring to a W3 Full Professorship, a demonstrable exceptional scientific profile is essential, showcasing substantial, influential contributions within the realm of AI Systems Programming. In both cases, we expect prospective candidates to contribute to the research excellence of the Hessian Center for Artificial Intelligence and further strengthen the Department of Computer Science's commitment to advancing Artificial Intelligence research at TU Darmstadt. In addition, a proven successful collaboration in international research teams, with industry or across research disciplines is an advantage.
All candidates, both W2 with tenure track and W3 positions, are anticipated to teach these subjects within our Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence programs. The teaching load will be reduced by 50% compared to normal teaching loads.
We expect W3 candidates to demonstrate a strong track record in acquiring third-party funds, while W2 candidates are expected to have initial experience in this area. Additionally, a commitment to future involvement in academic administrative duties is anticipated. Depending on the candidate's expertise, there are opportunities for engagement in ongoing collaborative projects at TU Darmstadt.
Within the Frankfurt Rhine-Main metropolitan region, the Technical University of Darmstadt and its environs embody a vibrant international atmosphere. Central to this is a cosmopolitan environment fostering functional multilingualism within our university community. Consequently, proficient English skills are essential, with an expectation of acquiring good German proficiency within three years.
The assistant professorship is designated as a qualification professorship according to §70 HessHG (Hessian Higher Education Act). Accordingly, the duration of the academic activity during and after the doctorate should generally not exceed nine years or the scientificactivity after the doctorate four years. This maximum duration may beextended if necessary in the case of children under the legal requirements of § 70 HessHG. Furthermore, applicants should have completed their doctorate at a university other than TU Darmstadtor have worked scientifically outside TU Darmstadt for at least two years after completing their doctorate.
The assistant professorship is initially limited to six years and comes with the option of a tenured professorship after a successfully completed tenure process. The tenure process, which can be initiated one and a half years before the end of the assistant professorship, evaluates the corresponding achievements in research and teaching. Upon successful completion of the tenure review, the position immediate becomes a tenured W3 professorship. For further information, please see the tenure guidelines of Technical University of Darmstadt. Remuneration follows the German W-Besoldung at level W2 Hessisches Besoldungsgesetz. A comparable employment relationship is possible.
Regulations for employment for W3 professorships are specified under §§ 67 and 68 HessHG (Hessian Higher Education Act). Such a professorship is tenured with a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, following the German "W-Besoldung" and subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate.
